220V 240V AC RGB neon flex runs directly from mains voltage without a low-voltage driver — plug in and go for long outdoor runs, building outlines, and commercial displays. Mains-voltage neon flex is designed for permanent outdoor installations where running low-voltage cable over long distances is impractical.

220V/240V AC mains strips must NOT be hardwired permanently in most residential applications. Use DC voltage (12V, 24V, or 48V) neon flex for residential hardwiring. Mains neon flex is best suited for commercial and outdoor display use with a plug-in connection.

When should you use 220V RGB neon flex instead of 24V?

Use 220V mains neon flex when you need runs exceeding 50 metres without voltage drop, when the installation is commercial or outdoor display, and when a plug-in connection is acceptable. Use 24V DC neon flex for residential hardwiring, bathroom zones, and any installation where SELV safety classification is required.

What controller do you need for 220V RGB neon flex?

220V RGB neon flex requires a dedicated mains-voltage RGB controller. Do not use low-voltage (12V/24V) controllers — they will not work and may be damaged. ATOM LED stocks compatible 220V controllers with RF remote and WiFi options.

Can you hardwire 220V neon flex in a house?

220V/240V AC mains neon flex must NOT be hardwired permanently in most residential applications under current UK regulations. Use DC voltage neon flex (12V, 24V, or 48V) for residential hardwiring. Mains neon flex should use a plug-in connection and is best suited for temporary displays and commercial applications.

  • Is 220V neon flex safe?
    • Yes when installed correctly with the supplied plug connector and RCD protection. It operates at mains voltage so must not be cut, modified, or installed near water without appropriate IP-rated connectors.
  • Can I cut 220V neon flex?
    • Yes, but only at designated cut marks (typically every 1 metre). After cutting, the exposed end must be sealed with the supplied end cap to maintain IP rating.
  • What IP rating does 220V neon flex have?
    • Most 220V neon flex is IP65 or IP67 rated. For UK outdoor use, IP67 minimum is recommended. IP65 provides surface-splash protection only and is not suitable for sustained UK weather exposure.
  • How long can 220V neon flex runs be?
    • Up to 100 metres on a single connection — significantly longer than DC voltage options. This makes mains neon flex ideal for building outlines, car park lighting, and large commercial displays.
  • Can I dim 220V RGB neon flex?
    • Brightness is controlled through the RGB controller, not a wall dimmer. The controller allows colour selection, brightness adjustment, and effect modes via remote or app.

I ordered a specific lengths of ip68 warm white led neon strip for my drive. I installed it as I had installed my other led feature lighting from ATOM and the result was great. The lighting is very good and looks the part in my sons bedroom, what i would say is that they clips provided are poor and dont hold the lighting in place. I purchased some 3m double sided tape and this was much better and maintained the lighting in a straight line.
