Description
The default 6x12mm decking specification. 5cm (50mm) cut intervals — the sweet spot between cut precision and continuous run length. 20 metres single-feed, 40 metres dual-end. 24V DC. This is the format we ship most often for typical residential and small-commercial decking projects.
Permanent IP67 silicone build. 120 LEDs per metre delivering up to 690 lumens through a 120° smooth beam. Designed for UK outdoor exposure year-round, with verified performance from -30°C to +50°C. Compatible with standard 24V LED drivers — most 24V drivers in our catalogue are sized to drive 20m+ in a single run.
Where 5cm sits best in the range
Standard decking perimeters: a typical 4m × 6m deck has roughly 20m of perimeter. One 24V 5cm reel covers it from a single corner driver — no need for parallel feeds, no voltage drop concerns.
Patio surrounds and pergolas: patio edge runs of 8-15m and pergola undersides up to 6m × 4m fit comfortably in the single-feed limit. Cut at every 5cm mark to match the patio slab grid.
Composite step systems: manufactured composite step kits use standard riser depths (95mm, 120mm, 145mm). All multiples of 5cm — perfect alignment with cut points and zero waste.
Mid-size garden borders: retaining wall capstones, raised bed perimeters, and pathway edges between 10m and 20m total length. The 20m reel is one continuous piece — no joins, no failure points.
Why 5cm vs other cuts
Versus 1cm: the 1cm format costs slightly more per metre and is useful only when you need sub-5cm precision (stair nosings, narrow boards under 200mm). For straight perimeter runs, 5cm is faster to install with fewer cut decisions.
Versus 48V 10cm: 48V is the long-run option for projects over 20m. Below 20m, 24V is simpler — driver compatibility is broader, the LED count per cut is denser at 24V, and the install matches the bulk of UK residential needs.
Install detail
Driver sizing for a full 20m reel: 20 × 9W = 180W draw. With the 1.2 multiplier you need 220W minimum. Use a 240W or 300W 24V Mean Well driver. Round up — never down.
Cut precision: 5cm marks are visible on the silicone. Cut only at the mark, not between. Self-cutting voids the IP67 seal. We seal end-caps free of charge if you ask before dispatch.
Bend radius: 15mm minimum horizontal. The flex is single-bend (horizontal plane only) — this is not a vertical-bend or dual-bend product.
Recommended accessories: our 6x12mm aluminium decking channels (clip-on style) double as heatsinks and protect the silicone from foot pressure. Channel + clip combination keeps the flex flush with the deck surface.
Compliance: install per BS7671 18th Edition. Low-voltage DC only — never connect to mains.
For family back gardens and entertaining patios
Britain's typical family back garden — patio, lawn, BBQ area, and shed combined — fits comfortably in a single 20m reel. The 5cm cut gives enough flexibility without slowing the install:
Rear patio surrounds: standard 4×6m or 5×7m rear patios with continuous edge lighting around three or four sides. One driver, one continuous line.
Lawn-to-patio borders: defining where the patio ends and the grass begins — particularly useful where children run between the two zones at dusk.
Outdoor kitchen and BBQ zones: ambient lighting around outdoor kitchens, pizza ovens, and built-in BBQ counters. The IP67 rating handles fat splatter and rain wash.
Garden room and summerhouse thresholds: light strips under garden room overhangs, summerhouse decking, or home-office shed bases — clearly delineating the structure at night.
Colour selection guide
2700K — warm amber. Best on cedar, oak, mahogany decking. Hospitality and ambient garden zones.
3000K — soft warm. The most ordered option in this range. Universal residential default.
4000K — neutral white. Modern grey composite, slate, light stone. Architectural finish.
6000K — daylight cool. Step lighting where visibility matters, commercial outdoor, security-led installs.
Need a different format?
Decking LED Lights 24V — 1cm cut, 15m: finer cut precision for stair nosings and boards under 200mm wide.
Decking LED Lights 48V — 10cm cut, 40m: doubles the single-feed run for projects over 20m.
Every order custom-cut to your exact length, IP67-sealed at the end, and dispatched ready to install.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between IP65, IP67, and IP68?
IP65 handles surface splashes only and is not suitable for UK outdoor conditions or bathroom wet zones under BS7671. IP67 is rated for temporary immersion and covers outdoor garden installations, most bathroom zones, and exposed architectural features. IP68 handles continuous submersion for ponds, fountains, and fully exposed outdoor applications. For most UK garden and decking projects, IP67 is the correct choice.
Can I cut this product to a custom length?
Yes. ATOM LED products can be cut at the marked cut points without voiding the warranty. Many competitors restrict cuts to 50–100mm intervals, which wastes offcuts on tight custom runs. Use sharp scissors or a craft knife for a clean cut, then seal the end with a suitable end cap.
What size driver do I need?
Multiply the total metres by the wattage per metre, then add 20% headroom. For example: 10 metres of 24V neon flex at 9W/m = 90W total, so you need a minimum 108W driver. Never load a driver above 80% capacity for long-term reliability.
Should I choose 12V, 24V, or 48V?
Choose 12V for caravans, cars, boats, and any project powered by a 12V battery. Choose 24V for most home and trade installs where you need dependable run length with lower voltage drop. Choose 48V for longer architectural runs where extra distance and single-feed flexibility matter. For underwater or submerged installs, use IP68 Waterproof lights and the correct driver for that product; do not use 48V underwater.
What is your warranty?
ATOM LED offers product-specific warranties: up to 7 years on single-colour COB strip, 5 years on RGB and RGBW COB strip, and 4 years on LED neon flex. The warranty covers manufacturing defects. Call 01952 370028 for warranty claims.
