Products and choosing

What is the difference between LED strip lights and LED neon flex?

LED strip lights are flexible circuit strips for coves, profiles, shelves, cabinets, and hidden linear lighting. LED neon flex has a diffused silicone body, so it creates a continuous neon-style line for visible edges, signs, garden curves, decking, and architectural outlines.

What is COB LED strip?

COB LED strip uses a dense continuous light surface instead of spaced LED dots. It is useful when the strip may be seen directly, when the diffuser is shallow, or when you want a cleaner premium line with fewer visible hotspots.

Should I choose 12V, 24V, or 48V?

Choose 12V for caravans, cars, boats, and any project powered by a 12V battery. Choose 24V for most home and trade installs where you need dependable run length with lower voltage drop. Choose 48V for longer architectural runs where extra distance and single-feed flexibility matter. For underwater or submerged installs, use IP68 Waterproof lights and the correct driver for that product; do not use 48V underwater.

Which white colour temperature should I use?

Warm white around 2700K to 3000K suits homes, hospitality, bedrooms, and soft outdoor spaces. Natural white around 4000K suits kitchens, bathrooms, joinery, retail, and task lighting. Cool white around 6000K is sharper and suits garages, workshops, signage, and high-contrast display lighting.

What is the difference between RGB, RGBW, and RGBCCT?

RGB produces colour by mixing red, green, and blue. RGBW adds a dedicated white channel for cleaner everyday white. RGBCCT adds warm and cool white channels, so you can tune the white temperature as well as use colour scenes.

Custom lengths

Cutting and made to measure

What does cut to nearest cut point mean?

Each product has fixed cut points, such as every 5cm, 10cm, or 12.5cm. If you request a custom length, the finished length is cut to the nearest safe cut point for that specific product.

Can ATOM LED supply custom cut lengths?

Yes. Many LED strip and neon flex products can be custom cut before dispatch. Enter the required made-to-measure length on the product page when the option is available, or contact us before ordering if your project needs several precise cuts.

Why do cut intervals vary by product?

Cut spacing depends on the circuit design, voltage, LED density, and product construction. Some products can be cut very frequently, while others need longer intervals to keep the electrical circuit intact.

Can I cut the product myself?

You can cut many products yourself, but only at the marked cut points. Outdoor and waterproof products must be resealed correctly after cutting. Incorrect cutting or sealing can damage the product and affect warranty.

Power

Drivers, dimming, and controls

How do I choose the right LED driver?

Match the driver voltage to the product voltage, then calculate total load: metres multiplied by watts per metre. Add at least 20% headroom so the driver is not running at full capacity.

How do I calculate watts for a LED strip run?

Multiply the product watts per metre by the total metres. For example, 8 metres at 9W per metre equals 72W. Add headroom and choose a driver above that final figure.

Can LED strip and neon flex be dimmed?

Yes, if the driver and controller are compatible with the product. For wall dimming, use a compatible dimmable driver and dimmer. For controller dimming, a standard constant-voltage driver is normally used and the controller handles the dimming.

Why is my LED strip dimmer at the far end?

That is usually voltage drop. It happens when the run is too long, the cable is undersized, the voltage is too low for the distance, or the strip needs power injection. Use a higher voltage, split long runs, use thicker cable, or feed power at more than one point.

Outdoor

IP ratings and outdoor use

What do IP20, IP65, IP67, and IP68 mean?

IP20 is for dry indoor use. IP65 gives protection against dust and water jets. IP67 gives stronger outdoor protection and temporary immersion resistance when correctly sealed. IP68 is designed for longer immersion only when the specific product is rated for it.

Which product should I use outdoors?

Use an outdoor-rated product such as IP65, IP67, or IP68 depending on exposure. For gardens, decking, pathways, and external details, IP67 neon flex or outdoor-rated strip is usually the safer choice. Always check the product page before ordering.

Can IP67 products be submerged?

Do not treat IP67 products as permanently submersible unless the product page specifically says that use is supported. IP67 is normally chosen for rain, splash, and exposed outdoor installations when all cut ends and joins are sealed properly.

Can I use LED strip in kitchens and bathrooms?

Yes, but the correct IP rating and installation method matter. Kitchens often need protection from steam and cleaning, while bathrooms must follow electrical zones and UK wiring rules. If unsure, ask a qualified electrician before installation.

Orders

Orders, delivery, and returns

Do you offer free UK delivery?

Yes. ATOM LED offers free UK delivery on 97% of products via Royal Mail 48-hour tracked. The exception is 1m rigid profiles, which ship via DPD because Royal Mail cannot accept parcels longer than 45cm.

Can I get next day delivery?

Free next day delivery on Mainland UK orders over £90 is available Mon-Fri — order by 1pm. Saturday Delivery is available as a paid option at checkout.

What is the order cut-off time?

The order cut-off is 1pm, Monday to Friday. Orders placed before 1pm on a working day are normally dispatched the same day. Orders placed after 1pm, at weekends, or on bank holidays are dispatched on the next working day.

Does next day delivery include weekends?

Next Day Delivery means the next working day. It does not include weekends, bank holidays, or public holidays. If you need delivery on a Saturday, choose Saturday Delivery at checkout.

Why do 1 metre profiles have a delivery charge?

1 metre rigid aluminium and PVC profiles are too long for Royal Mail 48-hour tracked because Royal Mail cannot accept parcels longer than 45cm. These profiles ship with DPD for better tracking and protection. Delivery is £6.95 on Mainland UK orders under £90, and free next day delivery applies when the order total is over £90.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. ATOM LED ships worldwide from the UK using trackable services such as DPD, Royal Mail, and Parcelforce. International delivery prices depend on the destination and are shown at checkout.

What happens if my parcel goes missing?

UK orders are sent with tracking. If you think your parcel is missing, contact us with your order details. Please allow 14 working days from the posting date so the courier can investigate; ATOM LED can then raise a claim and arrange a replacement where appropriate.

How do returns and refunds work?

Returns are handled under the ATOM LED refund policy. Standard unused items must be returned in their original condition within 30 days of delivery. Custom cut, made-to-measure, or modified products cannot be returned for a no-fault refund unless they are faulty, not as described, or fail to perform as they should. See the refund policy for full details.

Who pays return postage?

For no-fault cancellations or returns, the customer is responsible for the return cost. For faulty goods, you may need to pay the postage or courier cost upfront; ATOM LED will reimburse that cost once the goods are received and confirmed as faulty.

Can I return custom cut or made-to-measure products?

Custom cut, made-to-measure, mixed, or personalised products are made to your specification and cannot be cancelled or returned once production has begun if there is no fault. Your statutory rights still apply if the item is faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose.

Can I return accessories or full rolls?

Unused accessories such as power supplies, adapters, controllers, drivers, and profiles can usually be returned if they are in original condition and packaging. A full 50 metre roll may also be returned for a refund if it is unused, in original condition, and in the original packaging.

Can I change an order after placing it?

Contact us as quickly as possible. If the order has not been cut, packed, or dispatched, we will do what we can to help. Custom cut orders may enter production quickly, so changes are not always possible.
