Unlike standard RGB neon flex, which changes the entire strip to one colour at a time, addressable neon flex lets you display multiple colours simultaneously along the same length — running chases, colour waves, fire effects, and custom pixel-mapped content. Requires a digital SPI pixel controller, not a standard RGB controller. Questions? Call 01952 370028.

Quick decision summary: If you need animated effects — chasing lights, rainbow waves, colour-scrolling patterns, or pixel-mapped content — addressable RGB neon flex is the correct product. If you only need static colour changing or slow colour cycling across the entire length, standard RGB neon flex with a basic RGB controller is simpler and more cost-effective.
Who this is for: event companies creating animated lighting features, architects specifying dynamic facade lighting, bar and club designers building attention-grabbing animated displays, sign makers producing animated neon signage, and lighting designers working on pixel-mapped installations in 2026.
Who this is NOT for: anyone who wants a simple colour-change effect where the whole strip changes together — standard RGB neon flex with an RF remote achieves this at a lower cost. If you need a flat, adhesive-backed addressable strip, see addressable digital RGB COB strip.
Common buying mistakes to avoid:
Addressable RGB neon flex contains individually controllable pixel segments, each with its own IC chip that receives data from an SPI controller. This allows different colours and brightness levels on each segment simultaneously — enabling chasing effects, rainbow patterns, and pixel-mapped animations that standard RGB neon flex cannot produce.
The fundamental difference is in the control architecture:
| Feature | Standard RGB Neon Flex | Addressable RGB Neon Flex |
|---|---|---|
| Control method | Analog PWM (3-channel) | Digital SPI (serial data) |
| Colour per segment | Entire strip = one colour | Each segment = independent colour |
| Controller type | Standard RGB controller | SPI pixel controller |
| Wiring | 4 wires (R, G, B, common) | 3 wires minimum (data, power, ground) + clock on some ICs |
| Animation capability | Colour cycling, fade, flash | Chasing, waves, pixel mapping, custom patterns |
| Typical cost | Lower | Higher (IC chips in each segment) |
| Installation complexity | Moderate | Higher (data direction, signal integrity) |
Inside each addressable neon flex segment, an IC chip (such as WS2811 or SK6812) receives serial data from the controller, reads its own address, sets the colour output for that segment, and passes the remaining data downstream to the next segment. This daisy-chain architecture allows a single data wire to control hundreds of segments, each displaying its own colour at any given moment.
In 2026, addressable neon flex is used wherever animated, dynamic, or pixel-mapped lighting effects are required — from commercial bar installations to architectural facades and event staging.
Addressable RGB neon flex requires a digital SPI pixel controller that outputs serial data compatible with the specific IC chip used in the neon flex. Standard RGB controllers, WiFi RGB controllers, and wall dimmers cannot control addressable products — you need a controller with SPI output and support for the correct IC protocol (WS2811, WS2812B, SK6812, or similar).
Controller options for addressable neon flex in the ATOM LED 2026 range:
Before ordering a controller, confirm the IC protocol used by your addressable neon flex product. A WS2811 controller will not drive SK6812 neon flex correctly, and vice versa. Contact our team at operations@atomled.co.uk to verify compatibility for your specific product combination.
Pixel density — the number of individually controllable segments per metre — determines the resolution of animations and effects. Higher pixel density produces smoother chasing effects, more detailed colour gradients, and finer pixel-mapped content. Lower density creates a more segmented, blocky appearance but costs less and requires less data bandwidth from the controller.
Higher pixel density also means more IC chips per metre, which increases both the product cost and the power consumption. A 60-pixel/m addressable neon flex may draw 18–20W/m at full white output, compared to 12–14W/m for a 30-pixel/m version. Factor this into your driver sizing — always allow 120% headroom on the total wattage.
The most common IC chip protocols in addressable neon flex are WS2811, WS2812B, and SK6812. Each uses a slightly different data protocol — the controller must support the exact IC chip used in the neon flex for correct operation. WS2811 is the most widely used, WS2812B integrates the IC into the LED package, and SK6812 adds a dedicated white channel (RGBW).
Every addressable neon flex product in the ATOM LED range specifies the IC protocol on the product listing. Match this exactly to your controller. Browse compatible controllers in our SPI pixel controller collection.
Installing addressable RGB neon flex requires an SPI pixel controller, a non-dimmable constant voltage driver, correct data wiring with attention to signal direction, and neon flex mounting clips or profiles. Data direction matters — addressable neon flex has a defined input end and output end, and reversing them produces no output.
Never power addressable neon flex while coiled — heat accumulation inside the coil can damage the IC chips, LEDs, and silicone body.
The maximum reliable SPI data signal distance varies by IC protocol and cable quality, but as a practical guide, expect clean data transmission over approximately 5 metres of cable between the controller and the first pixel, and up to 5–10 metres of addressable neon flex without a signal amplifier. Beyond this, data errors cause flickering, colour glitches, and unresponsive segments.
Signal degradation in SPI-controlled addressable neon flex is caused by:

Addressable pixel neon flex is used in commercial bar and club lighting, architectural facade animations, event staging, themed environments, gaming rooms, and any installation where dynamic, animated, or individually controlled colour effects are required. Its dot-free silicone body produces a smooth animated glow that individual LED pixels in open strip cannot match.

Digital Pixel RGB Neon Flex Light 24V 16x16mm IP65 Waterproof WS2811
My order was all dealt with very carefully and professionally
Takes a little time to check and setup but worked with their CCt controllers straight away. Simple to use and adjust light settings which was one of the reasons to stick with white. As for longevity, not sure if the unit holds last settings if the batteries need changing. We'll see.
Thanks.
Great high quality led looks great at night
Very happy with the purchase. Quality connectors and hassle-free setup.
I was searching for good quality LED rope lights and came across Atom. I ordered 50 mtrs reel of RGBW lights and the item was delivered very quickly and the after sales service has been second to none. Adam has very been helpful with my enquiries every time I have called and it's never to much for him to assist. I would definitely recommend buying from Atom and definitely will do again on my next project.
I ordered a specific lengths of ip68 warm white led neon strip for my drive. I installed it as I had installed my other led feature lighting from ATOM and the result was great. Delivered in less than 48hrs the strip was exactly the right length as I had specified. The quality is exceptional and easy to install. The end result justifies the investment and their prices are vey good. Can’t fault them and highly recommend. I will be back for more strip as I have further ideas around my house. Thanks Atom!
I ordered 2 controllers for a time-critical installation where I needed to confirm everything was working before completion. I placed the order and the items arrived early the next morning and in time for the installation to be completed! Very grateful for the swift response and attention.
Good LED strip for outdoor application and good advice from the Atom team. Thanks!
Great product expensive but really worth it
Warm White 3000K COB LED Strip 24V 480LEDs/m IP67 Waterproof 20m Run
LED controller recommended by their team and it is great with a auto fade in effect when powered and brightness which can be set
Good product but the clips/brackets do not secure properly. Bad designs and made installation tricky.
Looks great and very easy to install
Very good quality
