Which profile fits your LED tape?

Measure your tape, then match it to the channel width quoted on each product, not the outside dimensions. Our range takes 10mm, 12mm, 12.5mm, 15.4mm and 26mm tape. A 12mm tape will not go into a 10.2mm channel, and forcing it damages the adhesive and the solder joints.

  • 10mm tape: 12x10mm surface channel, 10.2mm internal — shelf edges, plinths and cabinet interiors.
  • 12mm tape: 17x8mm surface for low headroom, 25x7mm recessed for a flush finish, or 24x14.2mm recessed where you want more depth.
  • 12.5mm tape: 16x16mm and 19x19mm corner profiles, which throw light across a 45-degree diagonal.
  • 15.4mm tape: the 60.3 x 15mm bendable plaster-in profile, minimum bend radius 200mm.
  • Up to 26mm: the 32.2 x 20mm in-ground floor profile, deep enough to swallow neon flex whole.

Surface, recessed or corner — which mounting?

Surface profiles screw or tape straight onto a finished surface and suit retrofits. Recessed profiles drop into a routed groove and finish flush, so plan them before the surface goes on. Corner profiles sit in an internal angle.

  • Surface mount: nothing to rout, fixed with clips or the supplied tape. The fastest retrofit.
  • Recessed: the 25x7mm needs a 17mm x 7mm groove. Its flanges sit on the surface and hide the cut edge.
  • Corner: 16x16mm and 19x19mm, for coving, under-cabinet and stair nosings.
  • In-ground and outdoor: a separate family — see the aluminium LED profile range for floor and exterior channels.

Which deep or extra-deep LED profile do you need?

Depth is what kills visible dotting: the further the cover sits from the LEDs, the smoother the line. The deepest section in this range is the 24 x 14.2mm recessed channel, taking 12mm tape with clearance for solder joints and wiring. Pair an extra deep LED profile with high-output COB tape so the added depth costs no visible brightness.

  • Why depth matters: below roughly 120 LEDs/m, a shallow channel lets faint scallops through an opal cover; a deep section spreads the light before it reaches the diffuser.
  • 24 x 14.2mm recessed: the deep option here, for a flush finish with room to spare behind the tape.
  • 25 x 7mm recessed: the shallow flush alternative when the routed groove cannot go deeper than 7mm.
  • Outdoor or in-ground runs: those belong with the bendable and outdoor aluminium LED profile range, paired with IP67 or IP68 strip.

Does the opal cover cost you light?

Yes, and you should design for it rather than discover it. An opal cover trades output for a clean unbroken line and hidden diodes. Specify a higher-output COB tape behind a diffuser instead of compensating afterwards. Black covers pass considerably less light again.

  • COB hides better than SMD: below roughly 120 LEDs/m, a shallow channel can let faint scalloping through an opal cover.
  • Clear covers keep output but show the diodes, so they suit concealed runs only.
  • Browse dot-free COB strip for runs where the line has to read as continuous.

How do you cut and join a channel?

Cut the aluminium with a fine-tooth hacksaw or mitre saw, and always slide the cover out first. Sawing an opal cover while it is clipped into the channel cracks it — that is the failure we see most. Deburr the cut before refitting.

  • Joins show: across a 4-metre run, 2-metre lengths give one join where 1-metre lengths give three, and every join reads as a faint shadow line once lit.
  • Never bond tape to bare MDF or plasterboard: the adhesive softens and peels in summer heat. Inside a profile it is held mechanically.
  • Heat matters: aluminium conducts at around 200 W/m·K against 0.19 for plasterboard, so the channel is a heatsink, not decoration.
