150 metres of COB strip across one open-plan kitchen and dining space

150 metres of IP20 COB LED strip at 24V, run through the ceiling coves, under both marble islands and through the cabinetry of a single open-plan space. Fed from one 800W and one 500W power supply, with individual runs of up to 20 metres on a single feed.

150 metres of COB strip across one open-plan kitchen and dining space

The brief

A large open-plan kitchen, dining and utility space where almost every architectural line was designed to carry light. The ceiling coves run the full perimeter of the room and return around the dining area. Both marble islands needed a line of light under the worktop overhang. The display cabinets, open shelving and the tall cabinet run all needed integrated light of their own.

The requirement that shaped everything: it had to read as one continuous scheme from any position in the room, not as a dozen separate fittings. Totalled up, the space took 150 metres of strip.

The solution — COB strip IP20 at 24V

We supplied COB LED strip in single-colour warm white at 24V, IP20 throughout. Four decisions shaped the specification:

  • Dot-free COB. In a room this size the strip is visible along 20-metre stretches at a time. The continuous phosphor coating produces one unbroken line of light, with no chip positions showing along the cove at any viewing angle.
  • 20-metre single feeds. At 24V each run carries up to 20 metres from one feed with no visible fall-off from one end to the other. Across a 150-metre scheme that keeps the number of feed points and driver positions down.
  • Two power supplies, sized to circuits. One 800W and one 500W supply, 1,300W of capacity in total. Splitting the load means each circuit sits inside its own headroom, and each supply serves the runs closest to it.
  • Cut to measure. Every length was cut at the marked intervals to the exact dimension of its cove, overhang or cabinet before it left Telford — no on-site guesswork, no joins mid-cove.

The result

The coves run unbroken around the full perimeter and return through the dining room. The under-island lines wash down onto the floor and lift both marble waterfalls clear of the ground. Cabinet interiors, shelving and plinths all sit at the same colour temperature, so from any position the light reads as one scheme.

After dark, with the downlights off, the 150 metres of cove and furniture lighting carries the entire space on its own.

Technical breakdown

What’s installed on this project

Total run

150 metres across the kitchen, dining area and cabinetry. Every length was cut at the marked intervals to the exact dimension of its cove, worktop overhang or cabinet before dispatch.

Single-feed length

Up to 20 metres in one continuous run from a single feed at 24V, with no visible drop in brightness end to end. Longer perimeters were split into separate feeds rather than injected mid-run.

Power supply

One 800W and one 500W 24V constant-voltage supply — 1,300W of total capacity. Splitting the load across two supplies keeps each circuit inside its own headroom and puts a supply position near the runs it serves.

IP rating

IP20 throughout. Every run sits inside a ceiling cove, under a worktop overhang or within cabinetry — dry interior positions, where IP20 gives the slimmest profile and the highest output.

Colour temperature

Warm white throughout, held consistent across coves, islands and cabinet interiors so the whole open-plan space reads as one scheme rather than a set of separate installations.
