Description

COB stands for Chip on Board. Rather than spacing individual diodes along a board, the chips are bonded to it and sealed under one phosphor coat — the reason the lit edge reads as a continuous strip of light.

5000K is daylight white: crisp and clearly cool without tipping into blue, for places you need to see detail properly.

24V DC · 480 chips/m · 7.5W/m · Ra>90 · 10mm × 2mm · IP20 indoor · cut every 50mm · 7-year guarantee

What limits how long a single run can be?

Current and copper together. This pulls only 0.3125A per metre, and its board uses 3oz copper, 105 microns against a typical 35. Twenty metres therefore carries 6.25A with enough voltage left at the far end to match the near end.

What should the driver be rated at?

Work out metres × 7.5W, add a quarter, round upward. Constant voltage is essential — constant-current drivers share the name but not the behaviour, and they produce visible unevenness across a long run.

So 5 metres calls for a 60W unit, 10 metres for 100W, and the full 20 metres for 200W.

How is it shortened and reconnected?

Copper pads appear at 50mm intervals; cut across any and the rest works unchanged. A 150mm tail is factory-fitted. Take it fully off the reel before switching on — a coiled run traps its heat and risks fire.

Which locations rule it out?

Anything damp. IP20 provides no protection from moisture, so it stays in dry interiors — profiles, coves, cabinetry, shelving. Bathroom zones, exterior runs and hob surrounds require IP67. Verify a channel's inside width before ordering, not its advertised size.

Is 5000K too bright for a kitchen?

Brightness is not what changes. Kelvin describes colour, and at 7.5W per metre this emits much the same light as a 2700K run — cooler light simply reads as more intense. In a kitchen it is clean and alert.

  • Right for: home offices, studies, garages, utility rooms, workshops and craft benches.

Each order is custom cut from a 20 metre roll to the length your project needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between IP65, IP67, and IP68?

IP65 handles surface splashes only and is not suitable for UK outdoor conditions or bathroom wet zones under BS7671. IP67 is rated for temporary immersion and covers outdoor garden installations, most bathroom zones, and exposed architectural features. IP68 handles continuous submersion for ponds, fountains, and fully exposed outdoor applications. For most UK garden and decking projects, IP67 is the correct choice.

Can I cut this product to a custom length?

Yes. ATOM LED products can be cut at the marked cut points without voiding the warranty. Many competitors restrict cuts to 50–100mm intervals, which wastes offcuts on tight custom runs. Use sharp scissors or a craft knife for a clean cut, then seal the end with a suitable end cap.

What size driver do I need?

Multiply the total metres by the wattage per metre, then add 20% headroom. For example: 10 metres of 24V neon flex at 9W/m = 90W total, so you need a minimum 108W driver. Never load a driver above 80% capacity for long-term reliability.

Should I choose 12V, 24V, or 48V?

Choose 12V for caravans, cars, boats, and any project powered by a 12V battery. Choose 24V for most home and trade installs where you need dependable run length with lower voltage drop. Choose 48V for longer architectural runs where extra distance and single-feed flexibility matter. For underwater or submerged installs, use IP68 Waterproof lights and the correct driver for that product; do not use 48V underwater.

What is your warranty?

ATOM LED offers product-specific warranties: up to 7 years on single-colour COB strip, 5 years on RGB and RGBW COB strip, and 4 years on LED neon flex. The warranty covers manufacturing defects. Call 01952 370028 for warranty claims.
