Description

MaxiFlex Extra Long. The standard mid-range driveway and landscape neon flex — 5cm (50mm) cut intervals, 20m of continuous single-feed run, 24V DC. This is the format installed most often on typical UK residential driveways, garden perimeters, and pergola lighting where the run sits between 10m and 20m.

8x16mm IP67 silicone construction, 120 LEDs per metre with 690 lumens output through a 120° beam. Built for direct exposure to UK weather — rain, frost, dew, and the full summer-to-winter temperature range. The Extra Long designation reflects 20m single-feed capacity vs the standard 1cm format's 15m.

Why 5cm Extra Long is the install default

Typical residential driveways: a UK detached driveway typically runs 8-15m from gate to garage. Add a small return at the gate end and you sit at 12-18m total. The 20m reel covers it from a single feed with headroom.

Garden perimeter borders: rear garden boundaries on a typical 10m × 15m back garden total around 50m. Two reels (front + back) cover it cleanly with one driver per side.

Pergola and outdoor structures: a 4m × 6m pergola has 20m of underside framework — exactly one reel.

Mid-size commercial outdoor: hospitality outdoor seating areas, retail forecourt edges, restaurant patio surrounds. The 20m single-feed simplicity meets specification cleanly without parallel-feed complexity.

5cm cut vs other intervals — when to pick this

You don't need 1cm precision: 5cm marks fall every two paving slabs (typical 60cm slab × 2 = 120cm = 24 cut points across a slab pair). Most landscape work doesn't need finer than 5cm.

Your run is under 20m: if the install fits inside 20m, the 24V format keeps driver compatibility simple. Step up to 48V only when you cross 20m.

You're cutting at structural breakpoints: patio slab gaps, paving stone joints, fence-post intervals — these structural breaks tend to fall at multiples of 5cm or 10cm, so the cut spec aligns naturally.

Install detail

Driver sizing for full 20m: 20 × 9 = 180W draw. With 1.2 safety multiplier = 220W minimum. Specify a 240W or 300W 24V driver — Mean Well HLG-240H-24A for outdoor IP67-rated install, or the 300W variant for additional headroom.

Cut points: 5cm (50mm) intervals are silicone-printed. Cut on the mark — between marks fails the seal. We pre-cut to spec before dispatch and reseal end-caps free.

Bend radius: 15mm horizontal minimum. Single-bend horizontal plane only.

Profile recommendation: 8x16mm aluminium driveway/landscape channels. Surface-mount or recess into the hardscape — clip-on style. Heat dissipation prevents premature LED degradation in the high-summer months.

BS7671 compliance: install by competent person. Use isolated DC driver. Never connect to mains.

For UK family alfresco zones and patio entertaining

For homeowners who use the garden as an extension of the home — outdoor dining, hot tubs, fire pits, and social spaces. The 20m reel is the right size for typical British family entertaining zones:

Alfresco dining patios: outdoor table-and-chair zones for family meals — perimeter lighting that lets you eat outside well into autumn evenings.

Hot tub and spa surrounds: ambient lighting around residential hot tubs, swim spas, and gazebo-housed wellness zones. IP67 silicone shrugs off chlorine vapour and steam.

Fire pit and social seating zones: circular fire pits, rectangular fire features, and bench-seating perimeters that frame social gatherings.

Play-area and lawn-zone delineation: safe boundaries between play areas, dining zones, and quiet corners — particularly useful in family gardens with children using the space at dusk.

Colour temperature for residential outdoor

2700K — amber-warm. Hospitality, atmospheric residential, evening garden mood.

3000K — soft warm white. The most-installed option in this range. Pairs with most UK residential hardscaping.

4000K — neutral white. Modern composite, dark grey paving, contemporary architecture.

6000K — cool daylight. Commercial outdoor, security-led, premises requiring colour-accurate rendering.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between IP65, IP67, and IP68?

IP65 handles surface splashes only and is not suitable for UK outdoor conditions or bathroom wet zones under BS7671. IP67 is rated for temporary immersion and covers outdoor garden installations, most bathroom zones, and exposed architectural features. IP68 handles continuous submersion for ponds, fountains, and fully exposed outdoor applications. For most UK garden and decking projects, IP67 is the correct choice.

Can I cut this product to a custom length?

Yes. ATOM LED products can be cut at the marked cut points without voiding the warranty. Many competitors restrict cuts to 50–100mm intervals, which wastes offcuts on tight custom runs. Use sharp scissors or a craft knife for a clean cut, then seal the end with a suitable end cap.

What size driver do I need?

Multiply the total metres by the wattage per metre, then add 20% headroom. For example: 10 metres of 24V neon flex at 9W/m = 90W total, so you need a minimum 108W driver. Never load a driver above 80% capacity for long-term reliability.

Should I choose 12V, 24V, or 48V?

Choose 12V for caravans, cars, boats, and any project powered by a 12V battery. Choose 24V for most home and trade installs where you need dependable run length with lower voltage drop. Choose 48V for longer architectural runs where extra distance and single-feed flexibility matter. For underwater or submerged installs, use IP68 Waterproof lights and the correct driver for that product; do not use 48V underwater.

What is your warranty?

ATOM LED offers product-specific warranties: up to 7 years on single-colour COB strip, 5 years on RGB and RGBW COB strip, and 4 years on LED neon flex. The warranty covers manufacturing defects. Call 01952 370028 for warranty claims.
