Description

COB stands for Chip on Board. The chips are bonded to the board itself and covered by a single phosphor layer, which is why the lit face shows one even band rather than the scalloping you see from spaced diodes.

The same kitchen lit by each colour temperature in this range

5000K is a crisp working white, the brightest in the range at 755 lumens per metre — true task lighting rather than accent. It reads as clean daylight without the blue edge of 6500K, and belongs where seeing detail matters more than atmosphere.

48V DC · 480 chips/m · 7.5W/m · 755 lm/m · Ra>90 · 10mm × 2mm · IP20 indoor · cut every 50mm · 7-year guarantee

The Ra>90 rating means it renders skin tones, worktop stone and paint accurately, without the washed-out, greenish look of cheap tape.

How long can a 48V LED strip run from one power supply?

A 48V COB strip runs up to 30 metres from a single feed at one end, or 50 metres fed from both ends, with no visible fall-off in brightness. At 48V the current is half that of a 24V strip at the same wattage, so voltage drop accrues at roughly half the rate over the same distance.

The copper helps too. Standard tape uses 1oz copper, 35 microns thick, and visibly dims past five metres. This uses 3oz, 105 microns — a third of the resistance. Together that is enough for a whole-room perimeter, a continuous cove, a long shelf line or a facade run in one unbroken length, without a mid-run power injection or a second driver hidden along the way. This is the strip to reach for when 24V tape would need splitting into sections.

How do you size the power supply?

Metres × 7.5W gives the load. Add 25% and round up — a supply run flat out has nothing left for inrush and dies early. Pair it with a 48V constant-voltage driver, never a constant-current type.

Worked through: 10 metres is 75W so take a 100W supply; 20 metres is 150W, take 200W; 30 metres is 225W, take a 300W supply. For a 50 metre dual-feed run, split the load across two supplies, one at each end.

Do you need an aluminium profile?

For short accent runs on a clean, cool surface, the 3M backing alone is fine. For longer runs, enclosed coves, or anywhere the strip cannot shed its heat, mount it in an aluminium profile — the channel acts as a heatsink, extends LED life and gives a clean finished edge. At 7.5W per metre, a run beyond about five metres in an enclosed space benefits from one.

Which dimmer works with a 48V COB strip?

Dim it at the driver, never on the strip itself. Pair it with a dimmable 48V constant-voltage driver and dim that — most take a mains trailing-edge dimmer, and 0-10V or DALI models exist for controlled installs. A wall dimmer wired into the DC output will flicker the strip and can damage it. Single-colour white like this dims smoothly from full down to roughly 5%.

Can you shorten it to fit a run?

Yes — cut on any marked pad, spaced 50mm apart, and the shortened length behaves exactly as before. The feed end ships with a 150mm cable attached. Leave it unpowered until it is off the reel; coiled tape cannot shed its heat and the adhesive lifts.

Is it safe over a sink or hob?

No. IP20 offers zero ingress protection, so keep it to dry interiors: cabinet undersides, coves, profiles, shelving. Steam, splashes and cooking residue all rule it out — specify an IP67 strip there. Profile channels vary, so measure the internal opening before ordering.

Is 5000K too cool for a living space?

For most living rooms, yes — 5000K reads clinical against soft furnishings. It earns its place where the light is working: garages, workshops, utility rooms, home offices and display cabinets, where accurate, bright detail beats warmth.

  • Right for: garages, workshops, utility and plant rooms, home offices, display cabinets, task benches.

Your run is cut to the precise length you specify from a 50 metre roll. Thirty metres runs continuously from a single feed at one end, and fifty metres from a feed at each end, so the longest architectural runs stay in one piece rather than being broken into powered sections.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between IP65, IP67, and IP68?

IP65 handles surface splashes only and is not suitable for UK outdoor conditions or bathroom wet zones under BS7671. IP67 is rated for temporary immersion and covers outdoor garden installations, most bathroom zones, and exposed architectural features. IP68 handles continuous submersion for ponds, fountains, and fully exposed outdoor applications. For most UK garden and decking projects, IP67 is the correct choice.

Can I cut this product to a custom length?

Yes. ATOM LED products can be cut at the marked cut points without voiding the warranty. Many competitors restrict cuts to 50–100mm intervals, which wastes offcuts on tight custom runs. Use sharp scissors or a craft knife for a clean cut, then seal the end with a suitable end cap.

What size driver do I need?

Multiply the total metres by the wattage per metre, then add 20% headroom. For example: 10 metres of 24V neon flex at 9W/m = 90W total, so you need a minimum 108W driver. Never load a driver above 80% capacity for long-term reliability.

Should I choose 12V, 24V, or 48V?

Choose 12V for caravans, cars, boats, and any project powered by a 12V battery. Choose 24V for most home and trade installs where you need dependable run length with lower voltage drop. Choose 48V for longer architectural runs where extra distance and single-feed flexibility matter. For underwater or submerged installs, use IP68 Waterproof lights and the correct driver for that product; do not use 48V underwater.

What is your warranty?
