12V DC neon flex is the go-to voltage for short runs, compact projects, and installations where driver size and portability matter more than maximum run length — ATOM LED 12V neon flex covers single colour and RGB in the same low-profile silicone body as our 24V and 48V ranges. Our 2026 UK collection includes warm white, cool white, and full RGB colour-changing options with maximum single-feed runs of approximately 5–8 metres depending on wattage.

Every 12V neon flex in this collection is compatible with the widest range of drivers and controllers of any LED voltage — from compact plug-in adaptors through to automotive 12V supplies and portable battery packs. This makes 12V the practical choice for signage, exhibition displays, portable installations, and small-scale feature lighting where 24V or 48V drivers would be oversized. All products ship from Telford with free UK delivery and a 4-year warranty.

Quick decision summary: For runs under 5 metres where a compact or portable power source is needed — 12V DC neon flex is the correct choice. For runs between 5 and 10 metres — switch to 24V. For runs beyond 10 metres — choose 48V for the lowest voltage drop. If you need battery-powered neon flex for portable signage, event displays, or exhibition stands — 12V is the only practical voltage. If you need long continuous runs for architectural or perimeter lighting, see our full LED neon flex range in 24V and 48V.
Who this is for: sign makers building custom neon signs and displays, event companies creating portable lit installations, small project installers working on compact feature lighting, hobbyists and makers building LED signage and displays, and commercial clients needing battery-powered or portable neon flex for exhibitions and pop-up retail in 2026.
Who this is NOT for: anyone needing continuous neon flex runs beyond 8 metres — voltage drop on 12V makes runs longer than this impractical without parallel feeds. For medium to long runs, choose 24V or 48V neon flex instead. Also not suitable for high-wattage architectural lighting — 12V products draw higher current at the same wattage, requiring thicker cable for equivalent runs.
Common buying mistakes to avoid:
Choose 12V neon flex when the run length is under 5 metres, when you need compatibility with compact or portable power sources (battery packs, automotive 12V supplies, plug-in adaptors), or when the driver must be physically small enough to hide inside a sign, display, or furniture piece. For every other application — 24V or 48V provides longer run capability and lower current draw at the same wattage.
The maximum practical single-feed run length for 12V DC neon flex is approximately 5–8 metres, depending on the wattage per metre and the cable gauge used. Beyond this length, voltage drop causes the far end of the run to appear visibly dimmer than the feed end — typically a 10–15% brightness reduction at 5 metres, increasing to 20–30% at 8 metres on higher-wattage products.
For context, voltage drop at 24V occurs at half the rate of 12V at the same wattage over the same distance. At 48V, voltage drop occurs at one quarter the rate. This is why 12V is positioned as a short-run, compact-project voltage — not a replacement for 24V or 48V on longer installations. The ATOM LED neon flex range includes 24V and 48V options for projects that exceed 12V's practical run limit.
12V neon flex offers the widest driver and controller compatibility and the most compact power supply options, but at the cost of shorter maximum run lengths and higher current draw per watt. 24V doubles the practical run length. 48V quadruples it. The table below summarises the key differences for project planning in 2026.
| Feature | 12V DC | 24V DC | 48V DC |
|---|---|---|---|
| Max single-feed run (typical) | 5–8 metres | ~10 metres | ~20m single, ~50m dual feed |
| Voltage drop rate (relative) | 1x (baseline) | 0.5x (half the rate) | 0.25x (quarter the rate) |
| Current draw at 10W/m | 0.83A per metre | 0.42A per metre | 0.21A per metre |
| Driver size (for same wattage) | Smallest — plug-in sizes available | Medium | Larger |
| Battery compatibility | Direct — 12V packs widely available | Limited — requires specific 24V packs | Rare — specialist packs only |
| Controller range | Widest — most controllers support 12V | Wide — most support 24V | Growing — check compatibility |
| Best application | Short runs, signs, portables, small projects | Medium runs, residential features | Long runs, architectural, commercial |
The higher current draw of 12V at the same wattage is not a problem for short runs — but on longer runs it means thicker (and more expensive) cable is needed to maintain acceptable voltage drop. This is one more reason why 12V is best suited to short-run applications where cable length is minimal.
Yes — 12V DC neon flex runs directly from a 12V battery pack, making it the only practical neon flex voltage for portable, battery-powered installations. A typical 12V lithium battery pack with 20Ah capacity can power approximately 5 metres of 10W/m neon flex for around 4–5 hours — sufficient for most event, exhibition, and portable signage applications.
12V DC neon flex is compatible with any constant-voltage 12V DC driver rated at or above the total wattage of the neon flex run. For single-colour neon flex, a standard 12V driver or plug-in adaptor is sufficient. For RGB neon flex, pair a non-dimmable 12V constant voltage driver with a dedicated 12V RGB controller — never use a dimmable driver with RGB products.
Installing 12V DC neon flex follows the same process as other voltages — plan the run, mount the fixing method, insert the neon flex, connect to the driver, and test. The key difference with 12V is confirming the run length is within the voltage drop limit before starting, and verifying the driver output voltage is 12V DC — not 24V, which would destroy the product.
Answers to the most common questions about selecting, powering, and installing 12V DC neon flex, based on customer and installer enquiries handled by our Telford team in 2025 and 2026.
ATOM LED stocks 12V DC neon flex in single colour and RGB formats from our Telford warehouse — not dropshipped from overseas with unpredictable lead times. Every 12V product in this 2026 collection uses the same UV-stable silicone body construction as our 24V and 48V ranges, with cut to length at marked intervals, CRI 90+ on single colour, and a 4-year warranty as standard.

Great high quality led looks great at night
Very happy with the purchase. Quality connectors and hassle-free setup.
I was searching for good quality LED rope lights and came across Atom. I ordered 50 mtrs reel of RGBW lights and the item was delivered very quickly and the after sales service has been second to none. Adam has very been helpful with my enquiries every time I have called and it's never to much for him to assist. I would definitely recommend buying from Atom and definitely will do again on my next project.
I ordered a specific lengths of ip68 warm white led neon strip for my drive. I installed it as I had installed my other led feature lighting from ATOM and the result was great. Delivered in less than 48hrs the strip was exactly the right length as I had specified. The quality is exceptional and easy to install. The end result justifies the investment and their prices are vey good. Can’t fault them and highly recommend. I will be back for more strip as I have further ideas around my house. Thanks Atom!
I ordered 2 controllers for a time-critical installation where I needed to confirm everything was working before completion. I placed the order and the items arrived early the next morning and in time for the installation to be completed! Very grateful for the swift response and attention.
Good LED strip for outdoor application and good advice from the Atom team. Thanks!
Great product expensive but really worth it
Warm White 3000K COB LED Strip 24V 480LEDs/m IP67 Waterproof 20m Run
LED controller recommended by their team and it is great with a auto fade in effect when powered and brightness which can be set
Good product but the clips/brackets do not secure properly. Bad designs and made installation tricky.
Looks great and very easy to install
Very good quality
Although it can be tricky to secure the string to the LED strip to pull through the tube. If all else fails cut the rear of the tube.
All in it is very good product. I would easy recommend it. Very easy to install and the end effect is brilliant. I am very happy with these products
