The 12V specification exists for a practical reason: compatibility. Many off-grid, mobile, and backup systems operate at 12V DC, and stepping up to 24V would require a voltage converter that adds cost and a point of failure. In a fixed mains-powered installation during 2025–2026, 24V and 48V are almost always more efficient choices, but 12V remains the correct specification for these situations:

Voltage drop at 12V is approximately double the rate of 24V at the same wattage over the same distance. For a 10W/m neon flex, expect visible brightness reduction beyond 5 metres on a single feed at 12V. Parallel wiring or a mid-point power injection extends usable length.
Voltage drop in any LED circuit increases with current and cable length. At 12V, the same wattage draws twice the current compared to 24V — and current is the primary driver of resistive loss in copper cable. Inside a sealed silicone neon flex extrusion, heat generated by the LEDs raises the copper trace resistance further, compounding the effect at longer distances.

Installing 12V neon flex requires a compatible 12V DC driver, appropriate cable gauge, mounting clips or a neon flex profile, and basic low-voltage wiring. Cut only at marked cut points using cut to length at marked intervals, mount to a flat surface or aluminium profile, and always wire in parallel for multiple sections.
Never power neon flex while it is still coiled on the reel — heat builds up inside the coil and can damage the adhesive, silicone body, and LEDs.
A 12V neon flex installation requires a constant voltage 12V DC driver rated at a minimum of 120% of the total connected wattage. For a 5-metre run of 10W/m neon flex, that means a driver rated at 60W minimum. Oversizing the driver by 20% extends its lifespan and prevents thermal shutdown.
Driver selection for 12V neon flex in 2026 follows the same core principles as any constant voltage LED circuit, with one important difference: the higher current draw at 12V means the driver works harder than it would powering the same wattage at 24V. This makes the 120% headroom rule more important at 12V than at higher voltages.

I have to say . The experts at ATOM , were extremely helpful regarding info about products , once track was up the strip sat in nice and neat . I had to cut it as was a tad long but I did it with a sharp knife no problem. I did however purchase a transformer from elsewhere and saved quite a bit , overall really pleased with the product, Brian

We bought two lengths of LED strips with power supply and WiFi controls, one was 6mm and one 10mm the 10mm had a fault and did not light across the full 9 meters only the first meter, these were replaced after a email and phone call, all working well now and no issues
Very happy with this LED strip. The 4000K natural white is exactly what I was after—bright, clean light without looking too cold or clinical. The COB design gives a continuous line of light with no visible LED dots, which makes it look much more professional. I installed it in an aluminium profile, which gives it a really neat finish and should help with heat dissipation over time. The FreeCut feature was useful as it meant I could get the exact length I needed without any hassle. Overall, it's easy to work with, gives off plenty of light, and feels like a quality product. I'd definitely use it again for future projects.

Takes a little time to check and setup but worked with their CCt controllers straight away. Simple to use and adjust light settings which was one of the reasons to stick with white. As for longevity, not sure if the unit holds last settings if the batteries need changing. We'll see.
