Our IP65 Neon Flex is ideal for indoor projects such as kitchens, bathrooms, gyms, bars, and retail spaces. Rated IP65, this neon flex is suitable for indoor use and light outdoor environments where only mild water splashes or moisture may be present (e.g. covered patios or sheltered façades). It is not intended for extreme weather conditions or high-exposure areas. However, IP65 is not designed for full outdoor exposure to heavy rain, snow, or extreme weather conditions – for that, you’ll want IP67 or IP68 Neon Flex.

Unlike fragile glass neon, our Neon Flex is safe, flexible, efficient, and durable, giving you years of stylish lighting for modern interiors and light-duty outdoor projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

What are the main differences between IP65 and IP67 neon flex?

IP65 is resistant to dust and water jets/spray, while IP67 adds protection against temporary immersion. In practice, IP67 products usually have more durable sealing at ends/joints, which is where most outdoor failures happen.

Best outdoor installation tips for IP65 neon flex

Use IP65 in sheltered locations (eaves/overhangs), keep joins to a minimum, and put all connections inside an IP-rated junction box with cable glands and drip loops. Reseal every cut end/join carefully, because IP65 jackets alone won’t protect open terminations.

How to choose between 12V and 220V neon flex

12V/24V (SELV) is generally safer and more flexible for DIY installs, but needs more power injection on long runs; 220–240V neon flex can run longer without voltage drop but involves mains voltage, stricter waterproofing, and should be installed to local electrical standards (often by a qualified electrician).

Typical power consumption per meter for IP65 neon flex

It varies by model and brightness, but many IP65 neon flex products land roughly in the ~8–15 W per meter range; always use the product’s W/m spec for accurate power sizing.

How to cut and reconnect IP65 neon flex safely

Cut only at the marked cut points, then use the correct end cap/joiner and reseal thoroughly (neutral-cure silicone/potting + strain relief) before outdoor exposure. Any reconnection should be mechanically supported so movement can’t pull the seal open.

Why pick IP65 over IP67 for sheltered garden overhangs?

If the run is protected from direct rain, IP65 can be a cost-effective option and still handle humidity and occasional splash. You still need good joint sealing because sheltered doesn’t mean “dry.”

When does IP65 fail under direct heavy rain unlike full IP67 seals?

IP65 is more likely to fail where water can pool, be driven by wind into connectors, or wick along cables into terminations especially at low points. IP67-style construction typically tolerates harsher exposure because the sealing is more complete.

How does silicone top-coating on IP65 differ from IP67’s glue-fill?

IP65 “top-coating” is mainly an outer protective layer against spray, but it doesn’t inherently seal cut ends or connectors. IP67 builds tend to rely on tighter housings and/or potting/sealed terminations that block water paths more effectively.

What 40mm minimum bend radius applies to IP65 10×15mm profiles?

A 40mm bend radius may be workable for some 10×15mm neon flex, but minimum bend radius is model-specific and depends on bend direction (top-bend vs side-bend). Bending tighter than spec can stress the silicone and cause cracking or uneven light, especially in cold weather.

Does IP65 lose rating at cut points without resealing?

Yes once you cut it, the original waterproofing is broken until you properly re-terminate with an end cap/joiner and sealant. Unsealed cut ends are one of the fastest ways to get water ingress and corrosion.

Why limit IP65 to indoor–outdoor transitions vs exposed borders?

IP65 is best where exposure is intermittent (doorways, covered patios, sheltered edges), while exposed borders see constant rain splash, pooling, and debris impact. IP67 (or higher) is typically more reliable for fully exposed perimeter installs.

Best outdoor uses for IP65 neon flex

IP67 is ideal for exposed garden borders, steps, pergolas, fences, facade outlines, and other areas that get regular rain and splash. It’s also a good choice where occasional brief immersion could happen (e.g., puddling after storms).

Compare IP65 vs IP67 durability over time

IP67 generally lasts longer outdoors because it resists water ingress at ends/joints more effectively, reducing corrosion-related failures. IP65 can last well in sheltered installs, but tends to be less forgiving if sealing or drainage isn’t perfect.

Can IP67 neon flex be submerged long-term?

No IP67 is for temporary immersion, not continuous underwater use. For long-term submersion, you should be looking at IP68 products with manufacturer-stated depth/time conditions.

How to seal connectors on neon flex installations

Use the manufacturer’s Waterproof connectors/end caps, place connections in IP-rated junction boxes with cable glands, and add strain relief so movement can’t work the seal loose. For harsh exposure, potting/neutral-cure silicone around terminations (as specified) helps block capillary wicking.

Power supply requirements for IP67 neon flex

Use a regulated constant-voltage PSU that matches the flex (typically 12V or 24V), sized to total load (W/m × meters) with ~20–30% headroom. On longer runs, plan power injection and fuse each feed to keep voltage stable and wiring protected.
